Ethical Farming Conference: Scaleable Sustainable Solutions

16/05/19, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Scalable, Sustainable, Solutions

The industrial food producing system is broken. It is damaging our soil, our ecosystems and ourselves. We need to find ways to address the multiple challenges facing our industry. We need to do this quickly, sincerely and meaningfully. We can only achieve transformation of our industry if we work together to change it.

Traditionally the approach to addressing the complex challenges that face the food production industry has been one of compartmentalisation and intensification. Yet all are interlinked and solutions for one can often exacerbate others. These challenges are so vast and their interdependencies so complex, it can seem impossible to address them all effectively or efficiently within a single production system, and yet perhaps it is only by taking a whole-system based approach that we can begin to make headway. This integrated, ecological, regenerative approach is the basis behind the ethical farming proposition.

The programme will incorporate an extended networking lunch session which will include an opportunity to join David Finlay on a farm tour, which will include a visit to the cows and calves.

  • A buffet lunch will showcase sustainably produced food.
  • There will be opportunities to meet all four businesses co-hosting this conference. These are Mossgiel Dairy, Peelham Farm, Rainton / The Ethical Dairy and Whitmuir.
  • There will be an additional optional evening meal and ceilidh at nearby GG’s Yard.

Please note, the programme is draft and is subject to change.
