Get Your Garden Plants Thriving with Homeopathy

By Carolyn Foster-Richards, Homeopath and natural beekeeper

Gardening by the sea presents unique challenges. After relocating to Northeast Scotland, I faced the daunting task of cultivating a garden in an environment with high salt exposure and strong winds. Leveraging my decade-long experience as a homeopath and natural beekeeper, I explored the use of homeopathy and Bach Flower Remedies to support my plants’ health and resilience.

Tackling Coastal Gardening Challenges

Upon moving to Scotland in 2022, we inherited a barren garden adjacent to the sea. Eagerly, I planted various fruits, herbs, and ornamental grasses. However, within months, many plants showed signs of distress, likely due to the saline conditions.

Implementing Homeopathic Solutions

Determined to help my plants adapt, I turned to homeopathy. According to Christiane Maute’s “Homeopathy for Plants,” excessive salt can hinder nutrient absorption, leading to stunted growth and wilting. Recommended remedies include:
  • Magnesium muriaticum 30C
  • Natrum muriaticum 30C
  • Phosphorus 200C
  • Solidago
Given Natrum muriaticum’s association with salt-related issues in humans, I selected it for my plants. Additionally, I used Bach Flower Remedies:
  • Rescue Remedy: To alleviate transplant shock.
  • Walnut: To assist with environmental adaptation.

Application Process:

  1. Dissolved one pill of Natrum muriaticum 30C and added two drops each of Rescue Remedy and Walnut into a watering can.
  2. Applied the solution to all plants in April 2023.
  3. Monitored progress and provided organic nourishment as needed.

By July 2023, approximately 90% of the garden had rejuvenated, yielding fruits like blueberries and blackberries.

Addressing New Plantings and Environmental Stressors

In early 2023, we introduced privet hedges for privacy. Despite initial vigor, they struggled post-planting, especially after an unexpected frost. To support their recovery:
  • Aconite 30C: Administered for frost-induced shock.
  • Natrum muriaticum 30C: Continued to counteract salt stress.
By July 2023, the privets exhibited significant new growth.

Exploring Electroculture Gardening

Seeking sustainable methods to bolster plant resilience, I delved into electroculture gardening—a technique that uses electrical currents to stimulate plant growth and enhance nutrient uptake. In July 2023, I implemented this by:

  1. Wrapping copper wire around bamboo canes.
  2. Positioning them strategically among the plants.

By September 2023, noticeable improvements were observed, particularly in the privets and blackberry bush.

Embracing Holistic Plant Care

Integrating homeopathy, Bach Flower Remedies, and electroculture has transformed our coastal garden. These holistic approaches have not only revitalized our plants but also deepened my connection with the natural environment.
