Banish Flies and External Pests with Pat Aherne's DIY Neem Oil Fly Repellent
Flies are annoying and debilitating to cattle and can be fatal for sheep if subjected to ‘Fly Strike’.
Irish Dairy Farmer Pat Aherne reports excellent results using Neem Oil during the fly season.
Pat’s Recipe:
- Organic Neem Oil
- Hand Hot Water
- Washing Up Liquid or Liquid Soap
Â
Use a ratio of 1:10:Neem:water.
Method:
Add 500mls of organic NEEM oil to a 5ltr spray container with the hot water (You can use any amount using the ratio 1:10)
Add a good squirt of washing up liquid to emulsify the mix.
Pat then sprays along the backs of his cows when they are in the parlour. Repeat as needed.
Pat finds once a fortnight effective.
This mixture can be used to repel any external fly or pest including flies, midges, lice, fleas and ticks and can be used safely on cattle, sheep, horses and pigs.
